Use these curls to garnish ice cream, cakes, and pies. Prep : 15 minutes plus chilling
  • 1 package (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  1. In heavy 1-quart saucepan, combine chocolate chips and shortening; heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted and smooth.
  2. Pour chocolate mixture into foil-lined or disposable 5" by 3" loaf pan. Refrigerate until chocolate is set, about 2 hours.
  3. Remove chocolate from pan. Using vegetable peeler and working over waxed paper, draw blade across surface of chocolate to make large curls. If chocolate is too cold and curls break, let chocolate stand about 30 minutes at room temperature until slightly softened. To avoid breaking curls, use toothpick or wooden skewer to transfer.
